Home Fiber Install Process

Once your neighborhood is 100% fiber ready, the next step is to get the line into your home, either aerial or burial.

Aerial

If you have a pole on your property, and your power line comes to your home overhead, we will attach the line to your home in the same general area where your power line is attached.

Burial

If your utilities are underground you’ve probably already seen your infrastructure within your home’s utility easement. If not, look for an in ground connection point. It’s usually behind or in front of your house and this is where we will connect the fiber line to your home

If You Are Home

Before we bury the line from our connection point to your home, our technician will take you outside to show you the best location. You can suggest another place. We’re always open to your input because you know your yard better than we do. And rest assured: a WVT Fiber representative will call the State 811 (Call before you dig) administrator to make sure that all your underground utilities are properly located in the public utility right of way. If the burial of service is on private property, the locates are handled differently and the responsibility of the property owner. If you have a dog containment or sprinkler system, please work with us to locate those items.

Installation

There will be two parts to the installation. The first part will be to connect the fiber drop outside and you don’t need to be home for us to complete this work. The second part will be to connect the fiber inside of your home to an optical network terminal, in addition to installing and connecting a gateway to the network terminal.

When to be Home

You will need to be present for the second part of the installation and this will be scheduled at a time convenient for you during the order process. Plan to be available for 3 – 4 hours. These devices will require power and the technician will work with you to identify the best location for coverage.

Signal Testing

The technician will test the connection to make sure your speeds are as expected, show you how to connect devices to wifi, and set up your wifi app so you can manage your services from anywhere!
